Ridgefield Obituaries: Ann Jepson, Hilda Feneley, and Norma Williams

Ann Jepson

Ann Jepson, 78, passed away Sunday, March 23, at home in Ridgefield, CT.

Ann was a long time resident of Red Oak, IA, where she was a school teacher for over 20 years. After moving to Ridgefield, CT, Ann was a long time member of the Friends of the Ridgefield Library and was instrumental in the effort to reconstruct the Ridgefield library.

Ann is survived by her two daughters, Melissa Buckwalter and husband Rod of Ridgefield, CT, and Melinda Adams and husband Stuart of Boulder City, NV, and her son, Jim Majure and wife Laura of Des Moines, IA; 6 grandchildren Eve Michael and husband Tom, Emily Buckwalter, James Adams, Mary Adams, Ann Majure and Mitch Majure. She is also survived by numerous cherished friends in both Red Oak and Ridgefield.

A celebration of Ann's life will be held at Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield, CT, from 12:00-2:00 on Saturday, March 29.

Hilda Mae Feneley

Hilda Feneley of Clearwater, FL died March 17th at Mease Countryside Hospital. She was 83 years old. Hilda was born on October 26, 1930. She was the daughter of Eva and Fred Nelson. Hilda was raised in New Bedford, MA. She graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She practiced pediatric nursing at MGH. She then married her late husband James S. Feneley on October 10, 1952 in Whidbey Island, Washington. They were married 50 years. She and Jim lived in Ridgefield from 1963 to 1986 before moving to Clearwater, FL.

Hilda was an active member of the Ridgefield Visiting Nurses Association. She also volunteered at the Ridgefield Thrift Shop for many years. She was an avid bridge player and loved to garden.

She was predeceased by a brother James Nelson.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters- in- law, Craig and Mary Feneley of Herndon, VA and Scott and Donna Feneley of Monroe, CT and by five grandchildren, Michael and Jack Feneley of Herndon; Laura, Ryan and Kiersten Feneley of Monroe.

In addition to her husband, parents and brother, Mrs. Feneley was predeceased by a son, James Nelson Feneley who died in 1974.

Memorial services will take place on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10:30 am in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 351 Main St., Ridgefield with Rev. Whitney Altopp, Rector, officiating.

Burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Norma Williams, Landscape Architect

Norma Eleanor Williams died at her home in Ridgefield on March 19th after a brief illness. She was 69 years old.

She was born in Manchester, Connecticut on December 13, 1944 to Steven D. Williams and Martha Stoughton Williams. She grew up in South Windsor where members of her family had settled in the seventeenth century. She graduated from the MacDuffie School in Springfield, Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland in 1967. She worked for IBM in New York until 1983 and held technical and management positions in information systems and internal audit.

She left IBM and enrolled in the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia in 1983. She received a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture in 1986. She moved back to Connecticut that same year. She held professional licenses in Connecticut and New York and worked for several firms before she established her own practice and specialized in historic preservation. She worked on large-scale restoration and preservation projects at the Weir Farm Historic Site in Wilton, Connecticut, at Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills, New Jersey, and at Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's house in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and served as president of the society's Connecticut chapter for two terms. She was a founding member of the Connecticut Olmsted Heritage Alliance and served as its first president. She served as the First District Officer for Connecticut in the Historic American Landscape Survey. She was named to the Governor's Council on Historic Preservation in 2011.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Madden, by his daughter, Margaret McClennan of Framingham, Massachusetts, and by his two grandsons. She is also survived by two brothers, Steven Williams of Carmel, New York and Christopher Williams of Middletown, Connecticut and by a sister, Nancy Brown of Guilford, Connecticut.

In keeping with her wishes there will be no memorial service. Contributions can be made in her memory to a food bank or to any organization that helps people who are hungry.
