Studies have begun for the 649 members of Lafayette's Class of 2018, the highest-quality academic class and most diverse class in the College's history. Students were selected from 7,850 applications in the third straight year of record applications.
"The breadth of cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds represented in this class and the array of personalities and character traits in the mix make it truly exceptional," says Matt Hyde, director of admissions.
The mean SAT (math and critical reading) score of the class is 1290 and the proportion of students ranking in the top 10 percent of their high school class is 62 percent, an all-time high.
The class includes 317 women (49 percent) and 332 men from 42 countries of citizenship, in addition to 33 of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Sixteen percent of the students are international.

Lafayette is a top liberal arts college with 2,400 students and 215 full-time faculty that offers a wide variety of undergraduate degree programs including engineering.
