A message for the community from John Frey

The loss of a young parent is not new to Ridgefield. Sadly, in the past few years, several young parents have passed away greatly affecting many in our small town. However, these tough times seem to bind our community, and many of us find ourselves selflessly wanting to help, in any way we can, a family in need.

The news of Bill O'Connor's passing earlier in the week left many wondering what they could do to help the family, especially State Representative John Frey, who lost his own father at a young age.  He knew he wanted to do something for the family, so he posted a simple, but heartfelt, message on the Ridgefield CT Facebook Group Page, and it hit home for many local residents. Many asked us if we would share it on HamletHub for those who might not be able to see it on Facebook.

We ask John if we could share his words and he kindly agreed.  Here is the information he posted:

Our community unexpectedly lost one of our own, Bill O'Connor. I have only heard wonderful things about Bill and his family this week. I don't believe I ever met him, but wish that wasn't the case.

Admittedly, this hit close to home. His death reminds me of my own father's passing at a young age.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to establish a scholarship fund for the three children (see below). What better cause?

This is my thought. Let's money bomb them - stuff their mailbox. Let's show them what a caring community Ridgefield is! If you can send $5, $20, $100, $1000 - please consider doing so and do it with a note. I'm sending a check tomorrow.

Will you join me?

I'd ask that if there are any other needs that their friends or neighbors are aware of, please post.

And, let's keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

'In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The O'Connor Children Scholarship Fund, 59 Longview Drive, Ridgefield, CT 06877.'
