2014 RHS Volleyball State Champs Remain Undefeated

After finishing up the regular season with a perfect record of 19-0, the Ridgefield High School Boys Volleyball team continues into the postseason.

Led by head coach Lidania Cibere and captains Karl Liapunov and Mark Liguori, the team has had an impressive season to date.

The starting line up includes Karl Liapunov (Class of 2015), Mark Liguori (2015), Chris Vandervoorn (2015), Ryan Miller (2016), Henrik Liapunov (2017), and Nick Laudati (2017).

The team seems to be making their way to repeat last year’s glory. Although they lost to Staples in the FCIAC finals last year, the boys beat Southington in the State finals, becoming the 2014 CT State Champions.

Despite the loss of many of last year’s seniors, the team seems to be doing just fine. Senior captain Karl Liapunov says, “although in volleyball anyone can beat anyone on a given day, I feel this team has the potential to repeat last year’s feat and win another state championship.”

Ridgefield plays Fairfield, a team Ridgefield already beat 3-1 in the regular season, at 7 pm at Fairfield Ludlowe High School today, May 27, in the FCIAC semifinals. If Ridgefield wins, they will continue on to the FCIAC finals on Thursday, May 28, also at Fairfield Ludlowe High School, against the winner of the Staples vs. Darien game also occurring tomorrow.

The State tournament will be held next week.

Come out and support the boys!
