On Wednesday night, members of Ridgefield High School's Visual and Performing Arts Department headed to Waterbury for the 2015 Halo Awards, the "premier high school theater awards in Connecticut," and they did not leave empty-handed.
Out of nine nominations, Ridgefield students brought home seven awards, including:
Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, Ridgefield HS: Elizabeth D’Aiuto as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd
Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Musical, Ridgefield HS: Michael Shofi as Anthony in Sweeney Todd
Best Chorus, Ridgefield HS: Sweeney Todd
Fearless Award (Musical), Ridgefield HS: Sweeney Todd
Best Sound Design & Execution, Ridgefield HS: Jacob Feldman & Terry Smith for Sweeney Todd
Gypsies of the Year (chosen by their teachers as Outstanding Members of their respective Choruses), Ridgefield HS: Devon Harford. The Gypsy of the Year from the school that wins for Best Chorus (Devon) will be the Halos Gypsy of the Year and will receive a $250 scholarship.
Additionally, long-time RHS teacher and musical director, Joyce Flanagan, was awarded Teacher of the Year.
The Halo Awards are sponsored by The Seven Angels Theatre and are awarded at the Palace Theater in Waterbury.
