Ed Asner's favorite acting role? Find out in HamletHub's exclusive interview

This evening the Ridgefield Playhouse is hosting legendary actor Ed Asner who will screen his movie Let Go and engage in a Q&A with the audience. Brian Jett, the director and writer of the film will also be present. This photo was taken today of me (Alex Fischetti) and Ed. He just cracks me up.

I had the honor of interviewing Ed about the movie and we chatted about some exciting acting endeavors in his future.

1. What are you looking forward to the most when you come up to CT for the screening?

Answer: Well I haven't seen the picture myself yet so I'm looking forward to seeing the audience's reaction to it and whether or not they will give me props for my performance.

2. What is the story behind Let Go and describe the character you play

Answer: I play an incompetent bank robber and although he might be going to jail for a long time for his crimes, he still has the love of his girlfriend to make him see the good in the world.

3. Of all you've done on the big screen, small screen and stage, what has been the role that has been the most enjoyable that you've played and why?

Answer: I love Lou Grant both in the comedy and in the drama. Rich Man, Poor Man was a joy to do as well as playing Santa Claus in Elf. Those three roles were a joy to do.

4. Is there one role you haven't played in your career that you would love to play in the future? If so, what and why?

Answer: I don't really have those yens anymore. I've been grateful for all the roles I've been given in any acting medium. Although as I think about it, I'm very interested in playing King Henry VIII on film or TV. We'll see what happens.

5. What future projects are you working on?

Answer: I'm working on a new one-man show that was written by Ed Weinberger who wrote for Mary Tyler Moore and Taxi called A Man and His Prostate that we hope to take around the country and possible film for DVD. I'm also about to work on a project that just got successfully funded on Kickstarter called Getting Ed Laid. Jean Smart plays my girlfriend.
