Introducing 'Ridgefield's Unsung Heroes'

My name is Megan Carey, I've lived in Ridgefield for two decades, and I am currently a Senior studying Professional Writing at Western Connecticut State University. As a part of my senior thesis, I have decided to dedicate my project to, Ridgefield's Unsung Heroes

Being raised in the suburbs of New York City, I struggled to assimilate into the high demand culture. Between the white picket fences and 7th grade scholars, I slowly turned inward feeling less than. Yet, as time went on, I was reminded not to turn my back on the very town that had raised me, Ridgefield, CT.

Over the years, with a new set of open eyes, I began to notice a set of individuals who seemed to be interwoven into the town’s vital structure. However, I realized it was likely that many in the community did not know their names, or their stories; “Oh he’s that guy that pushes the carts.” Well - he has a name, as well as a fascinating story that most wouldn’t believe.

I paid more attention to the people in the background of this town. My conclusion? Although they may not be in the local spotlight, they play a crucial role. And so today, I shine a light on these beautiful Ridgefield residents.

Ridgefield’s Unsung Heroes spans the spectrum of people who work in the town, volunteer their time, or constantly preach about the beauty of Ridgefield; the town they call home. It is my belief that these men and women are the foundation of Ridgefield, and without a solid  foundation, a structure is guaranteed to fail in attempting to hold itself up.

Every few weeks I will post a profile of a local unsung hero; an individual I have the honor of knowing. It is my humble hope that their stories will give readers a glimpse into the lives of the everyday Ridgefielder, as I gratefully give back to my hometown that has given so much.

Thank you!
