BBQ Competition Heats Up Ridgefield's Spring Stroll

Cowboy hats and flannel shirts, iced cold beer and finger lickin’ good ribs. Are we really in Ridgefield, Connecticut?

BBQ masters from around the region descended upon the scenic grounds of the Historic Lounsbury House today for the third annual Ridgefield Gone Country BBQ Festival, an event deemed an official Connecticut State Barbecue Championship by Governor Malloy, and organized by the Rotary Club of Ridgefield.

During the two day competition, sanctioned by the renowned Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) and the New England Barbecue Society (NEBS), BBQ teams compete for a guaranteed $8,500 in prize money. Click here to view the list of BBQ teams in this year’s event.

While local musicians performed on an outdoor stage, attendees strolled from grill to grill sampling the finest in BBQ and enjoying a picture-perfect spring Saturday. Kids were in their glory - enjoying carnival rides, cotton candy, and even a ride on a mechanical bull!

Get em' while their still HOT! The event continues tomorrow, Sunday, May 1. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children under 12 years old. For a more information visit www.RidgefieldBBQCT.com.

Proceeds of the two day event benefit Rotary Club of Ridgefield and the Lounsbury House. Funds raised from the Festival will support the Rotary’s work for both local and national causes, veteran’s welfare, and yearly scholarships to Ridgefield High School students. The Lounsbury House will use funds raised for outside building maintenance and to add an elevator to the historic building, making it accessible for all.
