Ridgefield Town Landmark Fully Exposed

Coat of Armour Removed from Cass Gilbert Fountain

The Cass Gilbert Fountain, in all its glory, has become a town 'rite of passage', and a true sign that the seasons are a changin'.  Whether it is bedecked for the holidays, or artfully decorated with glorious flowers, passersby are reminded that time has not stood still.

Today, the outer 'cage' of the fountain was removed. Spring flowers in full bloom will soon surround this town landmark (but it's even beautiful just as it is!)

The Ridgefield Fountain which stands on the corner of Main Street and West Lane serves as a defining and welcoming landmark to those who enter, a historical nucleus to those who call Ridgefield home.  It was designed in 1915 by world famous architect Cass Gilbert who gifted the fountain to the town. Gilbert, who fashioned the Woolworth Building in New York and the US Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C., once purchased Keeler Tavern as a summer residence. He died in 1934 but his legacy in architecture lives on.
