Giant Pumpkin Results are HERE!
Giant pumpkins and squash arrived in Ballard Park this morning to compete for top honors in the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off. Some traveled here from as far as RI and PA. They competed in 3 categories....long gourd (measured in inches), giant squash, and giant pumpkin (squash and pumpkins are measured in pounds).
In the long gourd category, Andy Box took home first place honors. Ridgefielder Steve Maydan took home second place. Maydan had entries in all three categories.
In the squash category, Steve Maydan took home second place with his 675.5 pound squash. This is a personal best for Maydan in this category. The winner hailed from Rhode Island, and weighed in at 1,252.5 pounds, grown by Joe Jutras.
In the pumpkin category, the winner was an impressive 1,825.5 pounds. This giant was grown by Gary Vincent in Plainville, CT. Second place honors went to last year's winner, Rhode Island grower Ron Wallace, with his giant weighing in at 1,505.5 pounds.
