Watches have been posted by NOAA for expected flooding and wind potential on Sunday, October 29
The Hazardous Weather Outlook continues to detail the increasing chance of heavy rain that could produce significant flooding of urban areas and flashier small streams and rivers starting Sunday afternoon.
Heavy Rain: The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is showing the potential for a widespread 2 to 3 inch rainfall. Isolated higher amounts of around 6 inches are possible. Learn more here
A Flood Watch has been issued for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, the Lower Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island for Sunday afternoon into Sunday night.
Strong Winds: Southeast winds are forecast to increase to 15-30 mph with gusts of 30-45 mph. Stronger gusts up to 50 to 60 mph are possible Sunday evening into Sunday night for much of coastal CT and Suffolk County of Long Island as well as the surrounding waters. Expect small tree branches to fall along with widely scattered power outages.
Once the cold front moves east of the area Sunday night, winds are forecast to shift from the west remaining at strong speeds of 20-30 mph with gusts from 30-50 mph.
These forecast potential hazards and impacts will be caused by the combination of an approaching cold front and a rapidly intensifying low pressure system moving northeast just off the east coast.
