CT residents should prepare for extended period of frigid temps

Prepare for an extended period of very cold temperatures and low wind chill values through next Tuesday.

Temperatures are forecast to average 15 to 20 degrees below normal through Friday and from Sunday through Tuesday.  Widespread subzero wind chill temperatures are forecast daily between midnight and noon, except Friday night.

Both frostbite and hypothermia are concerns. Particular care will be needed for the homeless and elderly populations.

There is potential for an accumulating snow on Saturday.

The potential for snow depends on whether low pressure from the Great Lakes merges with a low off the East Coast.

At this time, there is a 1 in 10 chance of snow accumulating up to 4 inches across parts of Suffolk County in Long Island.
