Snow in Ridgefield Today, Bitter Cold Continues into the New Year

An accumulating snowfall is expected today, with a plowable snow across Long Island.

  • Light snow develops this morning, then tapers off this afternoon into early this evening from west to east.
  • 2-4 inches of snow is expected across Suffolk County, with locally 5 inches possible.
  • 1-3 inches is expected across Nassau County and coastal southern CT, with a dusting to 2 inches elsewhere.
  • Please note that there is still some uncertainty with the snow banding with this system, so there is a 1 in 10 chance of seeing more than 2 to 3 inch snow across most of the area and more than 3-5 inch snowfall over Suffolk County and extreme Southeast CT

Frigid temperatures and low wind chill values continue through next Tuesday.

  • Widespread near to subzero wind chill temperatures are expected tonight through Sunday
  • Wind Chills of 10 to 20 degrees below zero are likely for much of the region late New Years Eve Night into New Years Day morning, and possibly also for Monday night into Tuesday Morning.
  • Both frostbite and hypothermia are concerns with prolonged exposure. Particular care will be needed for the homeless and elderly populations.
