Ridgefielder witnesses an act of kindness while visiting New York City

This past Monday I had the pleasure of heading from Ridgefield to NYC with my pal and fellow HamletHub contributor, Kristen Jensen. If you recall, Monday was a picture-perfect day. Warm temps and sunshine put a skip in everyone's step.

Speaking of steps, Kristen, her son Noah, and I stepped into a shoe store on Canal Street. Noah was in the market for some sneakers. He and his mom looked high and low for the perfect pair.

What happened next turned our happy moods grim and caused a dark cloud to replace our picture-perfect day.

While Kristen and Noah were deep in shopping, someone decided to get deep into Kristen's wallet. That's right - a thief. He snuck up behind Kristen, dug his hand into her bag and took her wallet.

When Kristen reached into her bag and realized the horror that unfolded, she was frantic.

But, that's when something wonderful, occurred. We watched in awe as a complete stranger performed a heroic act. One loyal shoe store employee was watching the entire horrific event unfold and decided to take matters into his own hands.

When this courageous employee saw a store patron had Kristen's wallet in-hand, he ran after him - and fast! He caught the thief, knocked him down, retrieved the wallet back. Amazingly, not one dollar was missing.

We headed back to Connecticut with renewed faith in mankind and heartfelt appreciation for New Yorkers.
