Ridgefield Aquatic Club swimmers Julia Weiner, Jenna Leonard and Kieran Smith competed at the NASA Showcase Classic National Age Group Championship in Clearwater, FL, April 16-19th. This meet hosted over 700 athletes and brought together some of the nation's fastest age group swimmers. Our swimmers stepped up to the challenge and swam 95% personal best times.
Kieran, swimming in the boy's 13 year old age group, placed in the top 10 in seven of eight events, achieved three new Short Course Sectional qualifying times in the 200 back, 1000 and 1650 free, and set two new RAC records in the 200 back (1:59.13) and 400 Individual Medley (4:17.41). He placed 3rd in the 200IM, 400IM, 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle, 5th in the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke, 6th in the 50 butterfly and 11th in the 50 free.
Jenna, swimming in the girl's 13 year old age group, broke 1:00 in the 100 free for the first time and placed in the top 25 in her signature events. She placed 16th in the 200 and 50 breast, and 21st in the 100 breast. Swimming all PBTs in her bonus events, she placed 55th in the 50 back, 72nd in the 50 free, 73rd in the 200IM, 75th in the 200 free and 81st in the 100 free.
