2014 Sunday Cinema Series continues Sunday, Aug. 30, with "Goodbye, Mr. Chips"

On Sunday, August 31st, the Edmond Town Hall Theater will screen, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, as part of the 2014 Sunday Cinema Series, presented by the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.  Tickets for all shows are $2, with shows at 1, 4 and 7 p.m.

Based on the novel by James Hilton, Goodbye, Mr. Chips tells the story of a man’s life transformed by pupils and colleagues during his lifelong teaching career, and especially by an idyllic romance.  Robert Donat won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and his co-star Greer Garson garnered her first  Academy Award Best Actress nomination.

The Goodbye, Mr. Chips screening is made possible by private sponsors, David and Marjorie Nelson, and additionally supported by Newtown Friends of Music, bringing cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han direct from Lincoln Center to Newtown, on Sunday, September 28th at 3 p.m. (www.newtownfriendsofmusic.org).   All proceeds will go to the Edmond Town Hall theater improvements.

The September 21 Sunday Cinema Series films will be a part of the Newtown Arts Festival “ridiculous abundance of enriching activities."

1 p.m. & 7 p.m. - Mr. Smith Goes to Washington starring James Stewart, sponsored by Law Offices of James O. Gaston

4 p.m. - Dark Victory starring Bette Davis
