Sacred Heart University got a little taste of star power today as the great Ed Asner took to the stage at the Edgerton Center as part of the University's American Legend's series.
Mr. Asner had everyone laughing silly as he shared stories about growing up in Kansas City, his major successes with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Lou Grant, and his activism for social causes, including aiding El Salvador in the 1980s.
Just as the show was about to begin I asked Ed if there was anything he hoped the students would take away from his lecture, he responded hilariously: "My dirty laundry. All the miles I travel in a year, I need all the help I can get!"
Ed took the audience applause and their overwhelming joy in stride as he felt it was just part of the job of making the public happy.
"I've simply come to CT to enlighten the people and then I head back home to California where I reign supreme," he remarked.
He certainly reigned supreme at Sacred Heart as many students and fans lined-up after the event for autographs, photos, or a quick handshake.
"I've got a charitable heart. I love people. They overwhelm me," said Asner.
