Lunch on The Ledge: Fall Vistas at Redding's Great Ledge

The Redding Land Trust invites nature lovers of all ages to join family and friends on Saturday, October 18, between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a special hike to the magnificent and blazing autumn vistas of the Great Ledge, the crown jewel of the Trust’s many open space holdings in Town. No travel time or fossil fuels required!

Hikers may park at the trailhead at 82 Dayton Road in Redding anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to pick up a brown bag lunch prepared by the Redding Ridge Market ($12 prepaid) and water (free) and then traverse an easy half-mile trail to the Great Ledge. The hike is perfect for children and novice hikers and more than perfect for all “leaf peepers” and lovers of outdoor majesty. (Alas, no dogs allowed.)

At 12 noon, David Brant, Executive Director of the Aspetuck Land Trust, will give a brief talk and answer questions about the Great Ledge and the importance of Open Space. The Great Ledge was the first land purchased by the Land Trust in 1988, all prior holdings until then having been donated; the purchase was made possible through the generous donations of hundreds of Redding citizens to the Trust’s special campaign. The hike is to mark the beginning of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Redding Land Trust in 1965 and its important role, along with the Town and the State, in preserving Redding as a green oasis unique among its neighbors.
