WCSU Department of Music has something for everyone this season

With the holiday season rapidly approaching, the Western Connecticut State University, Department of Music has something for everyone. All performances will be in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall in the new Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university's Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The events are free, but some require seat reservations. The public is invited.

TUESDAY, DEC. 2: Frankensax and the WCSU Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Jimmy Greene and Andrew Beals, will perform at 8 p.m. Frankensax will perform "White Christmas," arranged by Charlie Parker and adapted by Andrew Beals; "Bongo Beep," by Charlie Parker and arranged by Andrew Beals; and "Crazeology" by Benny Harris, arranged by Andrew Beals.

SATURDAY, DEC. 6: "Opera Scenes," featuring the WCSU Opera Ensemble and accomplished WCSU alumni in favorite opera scenes and excerpts, will be at 8 p.m. Margaret Astrup will direct. MONDAY, DEC. 8: The WCSU Percussion Ensemble, conducted by David Smith, will perform at 8 p.m. Steel drums will be featured for the first time in a program that will include a combination of several standard works for percussion ensemble, followed by two xylophone ragtime pieces. Adjunct Professor Doug Perry will be featured playing jazz vibraphone with the steel band.
