Giving Thanks for the First Snow Day in Ridgefied

With the long holiday weekend approaching, Ridgefield students were given a gift by mother nature of an extra day off from school and the first snow day of the season on Wednesday, Nov 26.

The white snow had hardly started to accumulate when twin brothers Matthew and Daniel Bucciero, 5th grade students at Branchville Elementary School, saw an opportunity to make the best of the bonus day they were given.  Both boys, who are avid athletes throughout the year, were especially energized by the prospect of a snow day to play outside. They are often seen playing games together and being industrious with sports teams and other outdoor activities, and this day was no different.

Although there was only an inch or two of snow on the ground when they started, the boys convinced their mother that this was the right type of 'snowman' snow, just right for packing and rolling.  Before they new it, they had created a rather large  base and then set two more snowballs on top. Being experienced from the last few snowy winters, the boys knew just the right size and was determined to build as tall as they could. Even the boys little brother, Christopher, got in on the act by making the face and finding the right sticks for arms. Like many of us, we have much to be thankful for this holiday season and a white Thanksgiving was just right. Pictured here is Matthew on the left and Daniel on the right with their tall snowman!
