Ridgefield Police Hold Memorial at The Lounsbury House

Every Memorial Day, proud Americans commemorate those men and women who have served our country. However, people can often forget that it is not just for those who have fought in combat overseas, but also for those people on the front lines all around us. I went to the Lounsbury House at 10:00am today to witness a fantastic memorial honoring the Ridgefield Police.

The Memorial included about 30 people, most of whom were family members of those who serve or have served our community as law enforcement officers. Captain Kreitz started off by welcoming a local rabbi Jon Haddon and reverend William Pfohl to say a few words. They spoke about the fallen police officers in New York and the deceased members of our own police force.

After the Reverend and Rabbi spoke, First Selectman Rudy Marconi addressed the crowd. Mr. Marconi began by mentioning a surprising fact, out of the entire United States, Ridgefield is the 4th safest community(determined by the F.B.I). He reminded everyone that it wasn’t the work of men in politics like him, but the work of the men and women who have served and serve in our police force.

Rudy Marconi remarked that often times we take our safety for granted, keeping our doors unlocked and feeling safe walking around late at night. He reminded the audience to always appreciate the reason for that feeling of safety, to appreciate our police.
