New Milford brothers create a dazzling Prospector Theater in Minecraft

New Milford resident, Brett Kurt, works as Clean Team Supervisor at The Prospector Theater in Ridgefield. This summer, Kurt’s two boys, Jason and Justin, have spent time with their dad at the Theater. And they have something big to show for it.

The duo are busy summer days and nights architecturally designing and creating an interactive Minecraft rendition of The Prospector Theater. And, it’s mind blowing. Enter: The Prospector Minecraft Theater. It’s beautiful, functional, and built to last. Walk into one of the theaters, stroll down the sparkling hallway, and climb the stairs to the lobby. Then, take a seat in the cafe. The boys have thought of, and designed it all.

Minecraft is a video game that allows the player(s) to build structures out of blocks. Using various building materials of the creators choosing, the participant can make sophisticated choices and rearrange parts and positions freely. Learn more about the game here.

Jason, a student New Milford High School is lead Prospector Theater Mine Craft engineer while younger brother Justin, a middle school student in New Milford calls himself “the helper”. Together, they have stretched their imagination and challenged their intellect while designing and building The Prospector Theater.

USA Today, in an article titled What Minecraft Teaches Kids, talked about educational choices kids are forced to make when playing the Minecraft game.

Do you use that wood block now to upgrade your ax for mining, or save it for the house you're building? Do you spend your time mining or exploring for new resources?

The article points out that kids are learning cost-benefit analysis, when to save vs. spend and other key budgeting and financial skills so important later in life.

Two months in, and the Theater is nearly complete, and already sparkles. Stay posted.
