*Editor's note: Halloween news travels far and fast. Even in Ridgefield, social media channels were lighting up in response to allegations that Milford Public Schools had cancelled Halloween. We wanted to clarify the situation by sharing information from Milford Superintendent, Fesser.
Milford Public Schools have recently come under fire for allegedly canceling Halloween within their elementary schools. This news spread across the community and media outlets and came as quite a shock.
These allegations are far from the truth. Yesterday, Monday, October 12th, the Milford Superintendent of Schools, Elizabeth E. Feser sent a letter out to parents addressing these false accusations.
In her letter she explains that after much thought and consideration, a decision was made to substitute the annual Halloween parade for a school-wide/PTA sponsored evening event—not canceling Halloween all together. It was their hope this change would allow for more parents to be involved who might work during the day, as well as letting all grades participate in Halloween festivities.
Superintendent Fesser had hoped for more support in trying to accommodate families and students. Instead she was met with false accusations spread by misinformed parents and community members.
