Thousands of Residents Watch as Ridgefield Lights Up for the Holiday Season

Thousands of residents descended upon the downtown area of Ridgefield the Annual Tree Lighting, probably one of the warmest ones in Ridgefield history.

Getting attendees into the spirit of the season was the Ridgefield High School Nightingales, the all-girls a cappella group, who sang holiday songs from the steps of a festively decorated Town Hall.

Master of Ceremonies and Ridgefield resident, Ira Joe Fisher introduced a very special young man, Justin Cowen, a seventh grader at East Ridge Middle School, who had the honor of flipping the switch to illuminate Main Street.

With downtown Ridgefield very merry, and now very bright, Mr. Fisher announced that Santa was on his way into town. The gleeful squeals of excited children resonated throughout the downtown area. Shortly after, Santa and Mrs. Claus were  spotted heading down Catoonah Street riding in a shiny red fire truck.

Santa greeted all present and let the children know that they were welcome to visit his special “North Pole” tent located behind Fairfield County Bank Insurance Services.

The festivities continued at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church for the annual Carols & Cocoa.
