Way of the Sword Fencing Goes All the Way

It was a proud day for the Way of the Sword Fencing Academy of Ridgefield on February 6 at the 2016 Connecticut High School Novice Fencing Tournament, hosted by Guilford High School Fencing Team.

Hundreds of teens from all over Connecticut participated in the grueling ten hour tournament. At the end, Catherine Massa, 15, of Redding, representing the Academy of Information Technology & Engineering, earned the gold trophy for first place in women’s Foil. Adam Barnett, 14, of Redding, representing Joel Barlow HS and Ian Koh, 14, of Ridgefield, representing Ridgefield HS tied for third place in men’s Sabre, while Jon Goodman, 14, of Ridgefield, representing Academy of Information Technology & Engineering, placed 7th in men’s Foil.

Way of the Sword is a USFA sanctioned club dedicated to promoting both recreational and Olympic fencing. Our offerings include personal fencing instruction for children and adults while teaching skills for honorable living in today’s fast-paced and often challenging culture. It’s unique curriculum is designed to bring pupils to a deep understanding of fencing both as a sport and art form as well as of themselves as responsible, reflective, and well-meaning citizens. The academy uses traditional training methods, creative facilitation practices, and character education to develop strong athletes and individuals.
