Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR) has partnered with Pets for Vets to open the very first and only chapter in Connecticut.
Pets for Vets is a national, nonprofit organization with the mission to help heal the emotional wounds of military veterans through the use of companion animals. Many returning veterans suffer from PTSD, stress, anxiety, and depression. Pets for Vets matches veterans with shelter animals (either a dog or a cat).
Studies have proven that companion animals significantly improve mental and physical health including reducing stress, depression and anxiety. Partnering with ROAR gives Pets for Vets a great advantage in finding shelter animals for the veterans. Pets for Vets pays the adoption fee for the veterans. Each pet will be healthy, up to date on all vaccinations and microchipped. Professional animal/dog trainers will help find the right shelter animal and help with the training. A Pets for Vets volunteer/representative will be there for support for the lifetime of the dog. The organization provides all the necessary equipment to start their new life together and helps find reduced veterinary cost.
The Pets for VetsROARCT Chapter provides services to veterans within an hour drive from Ridgefield, including CT and NY counties. According to Didi Tulloch, Pets for Vets ROARCT Chapter Director, “ We need everyone’s help in spreading the word about Pets for Vets. We want veterans to know that our program is here to help them. We are also in need of volunteers to help out at the different Pets for Vets events. Most specially, we are in need of foster homes and dog trainers.”
