Ridgefield Academy’s Second Grade Celebrates Community

As part of its character development program, Ridgefield Academy continually inspires its students to have a genuine appreciation of those who serve the community. Second grade students learned that, firsthand, on a recent class trip into the town of Ridgefield.

According to head teacher Sandra Gibson, the objective of the trip was to “celebrate the community with a focus on local government and those who serve.” Students began the trip with a stop the Food Bank, to deliver the 22 bags of food they had collected.

They also visited town hall, where they met First Selectman Rudy Marconi, along with other government officials, and the Ridgefield Police Department, where they learned about daily operations and even visited a jail cell!

The trip ended with a visit to Ballard Park and a stop at Deborah Ann’s Sweet Shoppe for their favorite ice cream.

The Academy has been bringing young students to town for many years as a way to instill in them a greater awareness of the numerous individuals who serve to make a community safe and successful.
