Ridgefield Community Gathers for 2016 GRADD Ceremony in Front of Town Hall

This morning saw the commencement of the annual GRADD (Government of Ridgefield Against Drunk Driving) flag raising ceremony. The GRADD program has existed for more than 30 years, beginning in the mid 80’s.

Police Captain Jeff Kreitz kicked off the event with an introduction of the GRADD program and the force for good it has been in the town of Ridgefield. Before passing the spotlight to First Selectman Rudy Marconi, Captain Kreitz stressed the importance of the RHS senior council leading by example in having a drug and alcohol free celebration following their graduation.

The GRADD program is a collaboration between the High School, Police Department, Fire Department, Highway Department and Town Government. Mr Marconi was followed by Superintendent Karen Baldwin. Mrs Baldwin spoke about the importance of being bold when making decisions, saying “The one thing about doing the right thing is that you always know it’s right.”

In attendance was Ridgefield High School Principal Stacey Gross was delighted to celebrate this occassion with her first RHS graduating class. Fire Chief Kevin Tappe and Police Chief John Roche and RHS Senior Class President John Diorio all shared their own connection to the class of 2016 and graduating classes from previous years.

Last but not least was Officer Fernando Luis, the resident officer at Ridgefield High School for the past few years. Officer Luis and the Student body lowered the flag in front of Town Hall, attaching the GRADD flag and posing for a picture before raising it once more.
