Rep Himes Pays Visit to RVNA

Representative Jim Himes (D-CT 4th District) visited the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA) today and received a tour of the RVNA Center for Exceptional Care from RVNA President and CEO Theresa Santoro.

Rep. Himes learned about the growing segment of the healthcare industry knowns as healthcare at home.  RVNA provides healthcare at home in Ridgefield and surrounding towns.  Healthcare at home is a rapidly growing area of healthcare because it is cost efficient, safe for patients, and often preferred by patients over hospitalization.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the compound annual growth rate for home healthcare services from 2014 to 2024 is projected to be about 5%, the highest among all healthcare industries.

Himes and Santoro discussed the important role that nutrition plays in many chronic diseases, such as cardiac disease, diabetes, and COPD.  They also discussed rules and regulations that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) implement, often impacting patients’ ability to access healthcare at home.
