The YouTube Rising of RHS Grad Amber Bodeur

Ridgefielder films The Rising of Amb3r at YouTube Space NY

Several months ago we published a story about Ridgefield resident and 2015 RHS grad, Amber Bodeur. “Not only is she a full-time student studying journalism and digital media at U Conn, but she is presently a YouTube sensation (at least in Turkey),” we reported.

Amber’s YouTube journey continues to flourish and amaze. Her YouTube channel, Amber'in Hayati currently has over 63K subscribers.

Last week, Amber traveled to YouTube Space NY in New York City, an opportunity afforded to stand-out YouTubers.

Tell me about YouTube Space NY

YouTube Space New York is one of the spaces by YouTube. With locations in Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, São Paolo, Berlin, Paris, Mumbai, and Toronto, the New York Space is one of the YouTube Space facilities in which content creators can go to attend workshops, use the facility with available equipment, and book the space to produce content. From the several studios frequently changed, according to hop topics, to the events held for nearby creators to connect, the opportunities for YouTubers are infinite at the Spaces.

Why did you attend this workshop and what did you do?

After applying to YouTube NextUp New York two years in a row and getting rejected, I was accepted to one of their biggest workshops, REDucation. In order to use the RED Cameras during my production days at the space, I had to complete the 16-hour training. During the immersive two-day RED YouTube Training, the eight of us learned from RED Camera experts and were placed in groups of four to produce a short film. While the other group directed a music video, my group put together a parody reality show preview. Although I was initially intimidated by not only being the youngest, but also by the level of expertise the others had, it was clear that each of us had different areas of expertise. We all learned from each other - whether it was lighting, sound, and directing in pre-production, or color-correcting and editing during post-production.

Can anyone attend?

In order to attend this workshop, the attendee’s channel must have over 10,000 subscribers, they must have completed the Unlock the Space workshop, and their application has to be accepted.

And  your short film. Who decided on the theme? Who was in it?

While we were all suggesting ideas for our final project during lunch, we decided to do something crazy and combine them all! Trying to combine the guys’ idea of a music video and the girls’ idea of a short reality show episode led us to the idea of a reality show about a singer. Immediately, I began singing jokingly and my group loved the idea of it being a parody. For our project, The Rising of Amb3r, I played the role of the singer, Carolina played my sister, Lester played the role of my manager, and Nadav played the host of Make Me a Star. We all took turns with the filming, sound, directing, and editing.

What's next? More YouTube Space NY?

I have been attending more and more workshops at YouTube Space New York as my channel grows and I gain more access at the space. I will be at the New York Space several times each month both for events and my own productions. While at the Space, I have met incredible individuals with whom I have discussed collaborating. I look forward to the opportunities!
