Ridgefield Gathers for State of Town & to Give Thanks to Vital Members of our Community

Silver Spring Country Club was packed early this morning with local business and nonprofit leaders and community members for the Inaugural Breakfast and State of the Town Address.

Organized by Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce, the sold out event featured the Inauguration of the Chamber’s Board of Directors for 2017 and “State-of-the-Town” address by First Selectman Rudy Marconi.  In addition, the Chamber recognized Ridgefield Prime as Business of the Year, Kathy Graham from Fairfield County Bank as Volunteer of the Year and EZ Junk and Snow Removal as our New Business of the Year.

First Selectman’s Address Highlights:

Rudy Marconi thanked the Ridgefield Economic and Community Development Commission (ECDC) for their economic development assistance and announced their new website.

He spoke the State and Federal deficit and its impact on the local municipalities.

“The State of Connecticut says that municipalities are responsible for 30% of teacher’s retirement funds...it’s a mess,” remarked Marconi, who spoke about a potential lawsuit filed against the State.

“They [the State] can’t figure this out so they’ve come to the municipalities.” (Read more about  teachers’ pension bills in CT Mirror here.)

On a bright note, Marconi is enthusiastic about the Branchville Transportation-Oriented Development Plan (TOD) and the significant improvements it will have on commerce and community.  “The study has been completed,” he said.

In addition, a plan to enhance Main Street by alleviating traffic is in the works. “We want to install turn lanes,” says Marconi. The entrance to CVS will be enlarged. “We’re looking at a 2019-2020 project which will take place at night,” says Marconi.

To residents who may have questions or concerns Marconi says, “Our door is always open.”
