John Capilli Throws Ridgefield Little League Opening Day Pitch Honoring his Wife

The Battle of Ridgefield was not the only event that had locals excited today. For many Ridgefield youth, the baseball field was the place to be. Today, Saturday, April 29 kicked off another season for Ridgefield Little League. An Opening Ceremony took place at Governor's Field this morning.

Ridgefield Little League opened the season by remembering one of their own - League Administrator and longtime volunteer Patti Capilli who passed away last month after a long and brave battle with cancer. She dedicated her time and talent to Little League - even from her hospital bed as she neared the end of life.

Players wore hats embroidered with the letters "PC" and shirts with "Patti" inscribed on them. What's more, Ridgefield Little League invited Patti's husband John to throw today's first pitch. This was a moment that touched both John and his son Johnny deeply. "It was awesome," remarked John, shown here with Johnny, a senior at Immaculate High School.

"It was a touching moment when Steve Scalzo, Little League President spoke about Patti's devotion to her family, friends and Little League," said John. "She was unwavering in her commitments to the very end," he added.
