New Conductor of the WCYO joins the Faculty of Sharps and Flats!

Sharps and Flats is welcoming the newly appointed String Ensemble conductor of the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra, Tristan Rais-Sherman to their outstanding faculty. "Tristan brings such joy and ingenuity to his music and teaching. Our cello and guitar studios have been growing and we are thrilled to be adding Tristan's expertise!" says, Alexa Donaldson, owner and director of Sharps and Flats Music Conservatory.

Tristan has become one of the most sought after young conductors in New York/Connecticut area, and is known for his vivid and thrilling music-making. In addition to being appointed Conductor of the String Ensemble of the West Connecticut Youth Orchestra, he was also recently named Conductor of the Young Peoples Symphony with the Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic and Artistic Director and Conductor of the Hilltop Music Collective in Greenwich, CT.

Tristan graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance from Ithaca College in 2012. While pursuing his studies there, Tristan participated in a wide variety of ensembles and solo performances of music. As a cellist he has attended festivals such as the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer and Winter Institutes, New Music on the Point, the Texas Music Festival, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.
