Fall Sports Season Begins at Wooster School

The preseason practices are over; students have returned to the Wooster campus; the weather still feels summer like, but the fall sports season is about to begin! Upper and Middle School students will begin competing in cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball!

Cross Country

The Wooster Cross Country team looks strong this year. The boys team includes 4 of its top runners from last season. Seniors Bennett Wattles, Daniel Michael, and Luke Fink are all top 5 scorers for the team and set to have amazing times this season. Look for the Wooster Boys to be top contenders at the HVAL championships.

The Wooster girls are led by senior Caylynn Maldonado. Caylynn along with juniors Julia Bauer and Lauren Guzzardi have the potential to lead this younger team to the HVAL win they nearly missed last season. This team has loads of potential.

The Generals cross country competition starts on September 13 at Harvey School.

Boys Soccer

The Boys Varsity Soccer Team will be sorely tested this year with the graduation of a remarkable senior class that included Natty Heymann, Kern Byrnes, Sam Cox, and Alex Foote. There are talented players ready to step up in each position, but they will have their work cut out for them.

Defensively, Jack Barsh and Nick Wyckoff will take over in goal, while Anthony Vines will take over as the sweeper, along with Ben Everett and Brandon Reed as wing defenders. At stopper will be Chris Gephart. Leading a talented midfield will be Alan Jos with new comer Mark Toledo in the middle. On the wings will be Matt Ezkenazi and Jacob Smith. Up top, hoping to replicate the success and energy of last year’s forwards, will be Drew Schnaudigel and Josh Carone.

The goals for the year are to be successful in league play, above .500, and to finish the season with a winning record. Other crucial members of the varsity team will be Haktan Ceylan, Kevin Hou, Simon Felicione, Silas Munk, Owen O'Connell, and Brandon Caraballo.

The Generals open the season on September 13 at home versus Chase Collegiate.

Girls Soccer

The Varsity Girls Soccer Team is very anxious to get this season underway. As we continue to grow in numbers, this will be our biggest season yet! We are hoping to challenge and strength each other throughout the season and be competitive in all games. We are going into preseason with high expectations for our players and coaches and looking to surpass our goals!

The Generals open the season on September 13 at home versus Chase Collegiate.

Girls Volleyball

The defending HVAL Champion Wooster Girls Varsity Volleyball team is preparing for the new season with energy and enthusiasm for a challenging, fun and rewarding journey. Despite losing 6 graduating players, the Generals have a strong core returning and several newcomers that should make for an exciting journey this year.

Leading the team are 2016 HVAL All-stars, Mimi Pelton McCormick, Olivia Edelman, and Brittany Reid anchoring the front line and service game. Varsity returning players Emmanuella Aspras, Karelin Dominguez, Caitlyn Strauss, Renata Abiali, and Kylie Heneghan all played significant minutes last year and are being counted on to provide strong all around play. The team will be looking to some new Varsity players from all classes to round out what should be a deep roster.

The Wooster Volleyball team faces a very challenging conference and non-conference schedule including defending New England Class C Champs King, and traditional New England powers GFA, St. Luke’s, and Hamden Hall.

The Generals open the season on September 7 at home versus SMA.

Football

Wooster School is dedicated to providing a wide array of athletic opportunities on both the varsity and junior varsity levels which will enhance and enrich the educational experience of our students, as well as provide recreational and fitness activities for the entire community.

In an effort to further athletic opportunities for our student athletes, Wooster School has partnered with Harvey School, to provide Wooster students the opportunity to play varsity football.

Led by Harvey Coach Kyle Delaney, the football team opens the season on September 16 against Dalton School.
