UPDATE: Community comes to aid of Ridgefield family displaced after fire

UPDATE: This article has been updated to include the ages and clothing sizes of the children.

Last night, a fire blazed through a home on Encampment Place in Ridgefield leaving the Coury family of six, plus two dogs, displaced. All members of the family and the pets are safe and spent the night with a local family member.

In Ridgefield-style, the community has come to the family's aid.

Neighbor and friend, Christine Santori, who has organized a community outreach effort, explains, "Thankfully, all four of the children, the two dogs, and mom and dad are just fine  As for a place to stay, they are going to work with the insurance company on getting a rental. For the short term, they will be staying at a hotel."

Santori says that the fire started upstairs in the bedrooms. "So their immediate need is for personal items like clothing and shoes and toiletries, etc."

According to Santori, the house is without power and the fire trucks remain on the scene. "The damage from the fire, the water, the broken glass, and all the smoke is going to be huge," she says.

How can you help? The family is in need of gift cards. "Visa gift cards can be dropped off at 25 Encampment or 57 Old Trolley. You are also welcome to donate clothing which can be dropped off at 25 Encampment Place.

Clothing needs of four children:

  • Stevie - size 7 superhero, Yankees or plain, Children’s Place jeans
  • Lilybeth - anything black or pink or red in size 11 tops and leggings and pants
  • Caroline - anything in purple, green and blue size 11 tops and leggings and pants
  • Jack - size 14 in dark blue and black and Children’s Place jeans.

Thank you to Christine Santori and the Ridgefield community for helping this family.
