St. Mary School Gears Up for Catholic Math Competition

St. Mary School students just finished the first of four math tests that will determine their standings in the Catholic Math Competition. “The tests are administered throughout the school year and the cumulative score is entered for the top three students,” explains Amy Dowding, Director of Advancement at St. Mary School.

Catholic Math League, a national math competition, serves as a mathematical tool used by hundreds of Catholic schools throughout the nation to aid in the development of the mathematical skills in the lives of their students.

The 2018 competition comes on the heels of a stellar mathematical year for St. Mary School. In 2017, St. Mary School students competed in the Pre-Algebra category in the Northeast Division and finished in first place. In addition, two St. Mary School students placed in the top three individually, Jonathon Dowding placed first in the Region, and Ryan Donovan placed third.

According to the Catholic Math League, competitions are offered for each grade from third grade through Advanced Math. There will be four contests for each level, each thirty minutes long. A team will consist of three or more individuals who will take that subject for that year. If one or more classes are involved, then the three highest scores for that test will become your school score.
