Ridgefield Main Street's First Menorah Lighting

For the first time, a public menorah lighting took place on Main Street in Ridgefield last night, attracting about one hundred residents to the downtown area for a festive Hanukkah celebration featuring live music, dancing, hot latkes, and donuts.

“The Chabad menorah lighting takes place every year, but this is the first time it was on Main Street, something that Chabad leaders and community members have been pushing for,” said Gayle Schreiber, who helped to promote the event.

The community gathering featured a Great Chocolate Gelt Drop, thanks to the assistance of the Ridgefield Fire Department.

The second candle of the menorah was illuminated by Rabbi Deitsch from the Chabad of Ridgefield, and a community member, David Schreiber. “Community member Chana Deitsch was handing out light up dreidel necklaces and glow sticks with a warm smile, while the DJ played music and attendees enjoyed Chanukah doughnuts,” said attendee, Jessica Mancini.

Mancini added, “We are lucky to have such a great community. Celebrating and supporting our fellow Ridgefielders in their traditions and cultures, shows the community and our youth, that we are an accepting community and it promotes open thinking and open hearts. The Menorah was a beautiful addition to our tree lit Main Street.”
