Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce Cuts Ribbon for The Prospector Theater's Pop-Up Shop on Main Street

The Prospector is rising again and will be a three screen, first run movie theater in Ridgefield with a planned opening next summer. Many were on hand to welcome this wonderful, educational pop-up shop that will provide information and training for the new theater, host events and more. The new Theater is going up at the same time as a new Library nearby on Prospect Street; bringing new growth and vitality to Ridgefield.

The Prospector will show a full range of movies to meet the needs and desires of our community and will delight audiences young and old. The Prospector will be a place for education and entertainment in the historic center of town, featuring: 3 screens with state-of-the-art technology, first run movies, classics, theme nights, independent films, documentaries, dinner and a movie. Included in the facility is room for food, an arcade, and rooms for meetings, parties and training.

This brand new theater is being built in the location of the original Ridgefield Playhouse, which opened as the town's first movie house in 1940 and had been renovated and used as a bank for some 25 years when it was repurchased in 2000 by the Ridgefield Library for its expansion.

Valerie Jensen, creator of the Prospector, for years has led both live theater and film-making by SPHERE, a local group that serves developmentally disabled people. Through her vision, the Prospector will also be an educational and vocational training center for adults with developmental disabilities. "The Theater will rise back up again because of our deep commitment to this project and commitment to help people live more independent and fulfilling lives. It will provide jobs and we will need to sell lots of tickets. Come in to see it with us as we can do more education and provide more jobs. Ridgefield people support and encouragement is the best.
