Day Tripping: Maurice Sandak Exhibit at the New Britain Museum of American Art

The "wild rumpus" is only happening until Sunday, February 9, so those who love Maurice Sendak should try to get to the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, Connecticut*, before it is over.

The museum's exhibit, "Maurice Sendak," opened in November 2013 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication of his beloved children's book, "Where the Wild Things Are."  It features many different forms of Wild Things ~ rough sketches, cels, storyboards and more. The 2009 "Where the Wild Things Are" movie is continuously showing; and families are encouraged to enjoy the reading area and create their own Wild Things on a massive chalkboard.

According to the museum, "It will explore the creative genius of a man who gave form, in words and images, to the fierce power of children's imagination. Original works will be complemented by quotes from 50 prominent individuals such as Tom Hanks, President Barak Obama and Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss)."

*New Britain is a little over an hour from Ridgefield.

Editor's Note: Before his death in 2012, many Ridgefielders remember seeing Maurice Sendak around Ridgefield, especially while on his morning walks in the Ridgebury area. This exhibit is a wonderful tribute to his most famous book.
