The New Ridgefield Library Stuns!

Do yourself a favor... if you are in or around Ridgefield this weekend, make sure you visit the new Ridgefield Library during their opening weekend.  Here is the link to the calendar of all the events and festivities planned, and here is a photo album of the Dedication Ceremony and the new Ridgefield Library.

HamletHub had the pleasure of attending the Ridgefield Library's Dedication Ceremony this afternoon, and even this damp, gloomy weather couldn't stop Ridgefielders, both young and old, and their excitement for the Library.  The Ceremony was held inside, and guests entered through the "old" Ridgefield Library's Morris building, much to delight of some visitors.  

Peter Coffin, Ridgefield Library Board Chair, welcomed guests and Ridgefield Library Director, Chris Nolan, presented Christine and Philip Lodewick and the Friends of the Ridgefield Library with the annual Paccadolmi Awards (named for long-time Library employee, Phyllis Paccadolmi). Other speakers included State Rep. John Frey, First Selectman Rudy Marconi and Connecticut State Librarian Kendall Wiggin.  Many other local government officials were in attendance too. Dee Strilowich, who bought the "job" of cutting the opening ribbon at a Ridgefield Library fundraiser, quickly snipped the ribbon and Ridgefielders were off ~  into all the nooks and crannies visiting the new building. 

On the three floors, there are special areas for children, teens and adults, quiet rooms and activity rooms.  The public will have the option of reserving some of these seven study rooms for small events, study groups, book clubs and more, or using them on a drop-in basis.  There is even an art gallery area that will host rotating exhibits.  The multi-story atrium that faces the Prospector has comfortable seating and will soon have a small café.  Besides the physical beauty of the new building, the new Library has all the latest technology ~ such four self check-out stations (that can check-out 6 books at a time), 28-fully loaded public access computers (one is even equipped with assistive technology for users with special needs) and 10 children's LeadPad 2 tablets. 

The Wall of Donors and Community Mural in the lower Gallery was unveiled after guests had a few minutes to wander the three floors in awe.  And by unanimous decree, it is spectacular too ~ looking at all the hand-painted book spines was a treat to the eyes.  

But stomachs got a treat too as guests were given "Ridgefield Library" M&M cookies upon departure.

I have always thought libraries were special places and the new Ridgefield Library confirms my belief!  Visit it soon.
