Artists' Reception for Contemporary Landscapes at the Ridgefield Library's Gallery

The Ridgefield Library is hosting an Artists' Reception on Sunday, June 1, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.  for their June exhibition, Contemporary Landscapes, curated by Rachel Volpone.

Contemporary Landscapes will be on exhibit in the Ridgefield Library's Gallery* throughout June. Join us for an artists' reception on Sunday, June 1 between 3 and 5 p.m.. The exhibition features work by Torrance York, Ann Conrad Stewart, Frances B. Ashforth, Donna von Holdt and Kim Hanna. Refreshments will be served.

Contemporary Landscapes brings together artists who have developed a distinct visual vocabulary that informs their work. Working in a variety of mediums, they explore different aspects of their inner and outer landscapes. From Torrance York's large scale photography that records and elevates a specific place and moment into perpetuity to the blurring of fact and fiction present in the pixelated abstract landscape prints of Ann Conrad Stewart. Frances B. Ashforth's oil paintings use spare and elegant horizon lines and blocks of color to bring a sense of stylized modernity to her waterscapes. With layered nuance and mastery of atmosphere, Donna von Holdt creates a dreamy sensibility transforming typical New England scenery into timeless imagery. Kim Hanna's imaginary mountain range with its curious shapes and whimsical line echos the sinuous curves of 20th Century masters Arthur Dove and Milton Avery. Using their respective mediums and processes, these artists continue to push the boundaries of both the spiritual and physical worlds around them.

*The Ridgefield Library's Gallery is a wonderful addition to our new library.  For years to come, guests will be able to view exhibitions, meet artists, see new techniques and mediums, and learn about the art world all within the walls of their own library.
