Remodeling is definitely a balancing act. Whether you're remodeling your kitchen, bathroom, or another area of your home, you'll face a ton of options—and will have to make trade-offs.

Where you choose to invest more or less will effect your lifestyle and how much you enjoy your home. These choices really count, not just for your lifestyle, but also because they will likely affect the resale value of your home. No pressure, right? Don't worry, here's what you should keep in mind for just about any remodeling project.

Splurge #1: Focus in the rooms you use the most

  • Think about your family's lifestyle, and spend more on the areas that support those priorities.

Splurge #2 : Spend more on your room's focal points

  • Choose to use high-end materials selectively in a room, where it counts the most. Go for impact, and pick the focal point where your splurge will matter most.

Splurge #3:

  • Invest in all things "green".

Splurge #4: Go for something you absolutely love

  • Go ahead and splurge on whatever it is you’ve always dreamt about—that one feature or item that will make this house feel like home. Whether it’s a Jacuzzi tub, a fancy walk-in closet, or heated bathroom floors, go ahead and spend a little extra on those items that will make your home feel extra special.
