RSO Launching Annual Fund Campaign in November

Symphony orchestras are truly one of Western civilization’s most magnificent artistic creations.  The greatest composers- Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Wagner, Tchaikovsky- wrote many of their most sublime compositions for orchestra.  And what can compare to the sheer power of 70 musicians together onstage performing the greatest music ever written?  It is, in the truest sense of the word, an “experience,” one that cannot be replicated.  A recording is at best a pale imitation of the real thing.

Area audiences are incredibly fortunate in that right here in Ridgefield we have our very own professional orchestra, the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, which has, for the past five decades, served our community with concerts of the greatest music ever written in world-class performances.

But did you ever stop to consider the significant costs involved in orchestral performance?  Hiring 70 professional musicians is certainly not inexpensive, and is one of many costs involved in symphony concerts.  Income from ticket sales cannot cover all expenses; all professional orchestras worldwide absolutely depend on other sources of revenue to balance their budgets.  The RSO earns 24% of its overall income from ticket sales.  The majority of the remainder comes in the form of donations from loyal friends of the orchestra and business sponsors who understand and appreciate the irreplaceable cultural offerings that the RSO presents to our community.

In November, the RSO is embarking upon its crucially important 50th Anniversary Annual Fund Campaign to raise the additional funds required to continue presenting world-class performances of transcendent masterpieces to our community.  What the orchestra provides to our hometown is priceless- the RSO is asking you to consider helping to continue offering the unique and powerful experience of “live” orchestral performance to our community for decades to come.
