Four Local Authors will Volunteer at Books on the Common on Saturday

On Saturday, November 29, or Small Business Saturday, hundreds of independent bookshops will be hosting local authors and illustrators as volunteer booksellers as part of the Indies First movement.  These special volunteers will be making recommendations and sharing their favorite reads with customers, signing their books, and generally helping around the stores to show their support of independent bookstores.

The Indies First movement was begun in 2013 by Sherman Alexie who encouraged fellow authors to "be a superhero for independent bookstores [and] spend an amazing day hand-selling books at your local bookstore." To learn more about the movement, click here

Books on the Common is thrilled to have 4 local authors participating in the Indies First movement at their shop on Saturday.  From 12 noon to 2 p.m., join Westport young reader author Lauren Tarshis and Brewster, New York author Mark Slouka; and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., join New Yorker cartoonist and Ridgefield resident Roz Chast and Peter Spiegelman, also a Ridgefield resident.

What could be a better gift than an author recommended read?
