Elegance Abounds at Ridgefield's Newly Renovated & Historic Lounsbury House

Last week I toured the newly renovated Lounsbury House with local photographer, Kristen Jensen. We were bedazzled by the beauty, elegance and functionality of the spectacular new space.

I had the pleasure of interviewing the Lounsbury House Executive Director, Ms. Louzette Dovaras about what we can expect once the doors of the historic Lounsbury House swing back open.

Tell me about your involvement in Ridgefield

I have lived in Ridgefield for the past 15 years. During my first year here, I joined Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR) as a volunteer. I love dogs and was excited to help raise money for them to build an animal shelter. I was asked to join their Board of Directors as the Director of Fundraising. I served as Director of Fundraising for 9 years and was one of the people who helped develop the very profitable ROAR with Laughter fundraising event.

How did you become involved with Lounsbury House?

I was fortunate enough to be selected for the position of Executive Director back in October 2014. The personnel committee interviewed about 19 people for the position. I had to go through several rounds of interviews. I believe my fundraising and event planning experience helped me get the job.

Tell me about what people can expect from the newly unveiled space?

People will be amazed at how stunning the Lounsbury House looks after the renovations. We have expanded our ballroom, added new wall paper, new furniture, fresh paint as well as new crystal chandeliers and sconces. Our bathrooms have been redecorated as well. New carpeting and flooring will also be coming soon. I think once everything is completed people will be wowed as soon as they walk in. I think it is going to be the most popular place in the area to have any major celebrations - from weddings to milestone birthday and anniversary parties.

As Executive Director, what plans do you have for the future of the Lounsbury House once it opens to the public again? How can the community contribute to the success of the Lounsbury House?

I hope to offer regular community based events. We really want Ridgefielders to feel that the Lounsbury House is their community center. We are focusing on developing some new family oriented events. We are also interested in partnering with other non-profit organizations and doing joint events with them.

People can contribute in a number of ways. First, by volunteering their time. We can always use volunteers at events as well as in the office. Second, we have several different committees that are always looking for members. Third, donations of any monetary amount are always welcome. We rely on the donations of the members of our town to keep the Lounsbury House running. We do not get any public funding. So whether someone can contribute time or money we would love to have the people of the community get involved with us.
