A New Chapter Begins for Ross' Bread

Editor's note: Ross' Bread has been sold to Ridgefield native, Amy Freidenrich. Stop into the Marketplace bakery and give Amy a warm welcome! Here is the note that Ross and Val Schneiderman sent to their loyal customers yesterday.

Dear Friends, Neighbors and Patrons,

Nearly 6 years ago, with the urging from many of you, we opened Ross' Bread as an "offering" to the community.  At the time, there had not been a stand-alone bakery in Ridgefield for many years, and we were interested in reviving the practice of baking bread and pastries, fresh each day, using natural and organic ingredients.

From the very first day, you have supported us beyond our wildest imagination.  We went from a business plan of two bakers and a couple of part-time front counter helpers, to a staff of 4 bakers and 15 employees.  We never looked at Ross' Bread as our primary vocation (we both have other full-time careers and neither of us were trained/schooled to run a retail business).  Instead, our vision was building a place to offer the finest baked goods, great coffee and tea, and a communal meeting place in the European tradition of bakery-cafés. Those values hold true today.

As a result of our dedication to those initial ideals and your continued, growing patronage, Ross' Bread is thriving.  Thriving to a point where it needs the full-time attention and guidance of someone who is passionate about the business and cares about the customers and community as much as we do.  Somewhat by chance, we believe we have found that person.

Amy Freidenrich is a Ridgefielder at heart.  Most of you will remember Amy by her maiden name, Amy Macartney.  She went to school here, and recently moved back to town with her husband Eric and their four children. With her Ridgefield roots, love of baking, and dedication to putting the customer first, we mutually agreed that Amy was the right person to take our bakery-café to the next level.  Under Amy's leadership, the bakery will still be called Ross' Bread, adding her personal touches to the outstanding menu of baked goods.

We remain happy residents of Ridgefield, and you will continue to see us in the bakery often, as customers!  We want to thank the entire community, from the bottom of our hearts, for all that you have given to us. And we sincerely hope you will continue to support Amy with the same dedication you have supported us these past 6 years.

Sincerely,

Ross and Val Schneiderman
