Scholastic Book Fair is a Huge Success at Wooster School

Students, parents, and teachers joined together at Wooster School’s Lower School Library on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22 for the Scholastic Book Fair.

Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. And, of all the skills a child learns, it is the one that you can influence the most. Giving children access to a wide variety of books in the home and the opportunity to select books that appeal to them is wonderful motivation for successful independent reading.

Wooster School Librarian, Robin Lindquist, remarked, “Hosting a Scholastic Book Fair is a great opportunity to put more books into more students’ hands and add an element of excitement to reading. Browsing through the fair with their classmates got all the students talking about books which is just what I hoped for. Of course, there is the added benefit of being able to add books to our library and to the teacher’s classrooms.“

Families were invited to the Scholastic Book Fair to celebrate reading with their children. In conjunction with the Book Fair a variety of guest readers shared some of their favorite books with the students. Head of School, Matt Byrnes, read the book, Dragons Love Tacos, to the Pre-K class. Wooster junior, Glenn Unger, read his newly published picture book, Keith's Courage, to students after school. Glenn even autographed the books and all proceeds will be donated to the newly created Center for Social Impact and Innovation.

Each Lower School class had the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during the school day and filled out a "Wishlist" which was then shared with their parents. After picking out books, the students entered some fun raffles and a "Guess Who's Reading" contest.

All funds raised at the Scholastic Book Fair will support the Wooster School.
