109 Cheese in Kent, CT brings good food to Litchfield County

Last weekend, on our way home from the Berkshires we made a quick stop at No. 109 Cheese Market in Kent, CT (the sister store of Ridgefield favorite, No. 109 Cheese & Wine Market) to say hello to Monica and see what it has to offer. Although smaller than the shop in the Marketplace at Copps Hill Common but painted the same bright, chartreuse color, 109 Cheese offers everything you need, minus the wine, for a wonderful dinner, picnic or snack! And similar to the shop in Ridgefield, the cabinets and cases are full of cheeses, charcuterie, crackers/bread, nuts/fruit and specialty products along with some grab-and-go favorites like flat-bread pizzas, soups and sauces that will easily make lunch or dinner a snap.

Although known as a local market shop, 109 Cheese offers sandwiches, drinks and more to eat on their outdoor patio. We arrived late afternoon, and the patio was still full of diners eating, relaxing and people-watching the slow-Kent life go by. Although not on the menu last Saturday, I think I must go back for one of their specialty grilled cheese sandwiches, as Connecticut foodie-blog, CT Bites, proclaimed, "The brisket grilled cheese was insane."

Not only are they introducing some Ridgefield favorites from Bernard's/Sarah Bouissou Catering and Swoon Gluten Free Bakery to their customers, but they have many local and Litchfield favorites, such as products from Happy Acres Farm, Farm Country Soups and Arethusa Farm Dairy. They even have a "bronze friend" by Litchfield County sculptor Denis Curtiss, just like Andes the Llama in the Marketplace .

Litchfield County is the perfect location for a summer day trip, but make sure you add No. 109 Cheese Market to your itinerary!!

No. 109 Cheese Market is located at 14 North Main Street, Kent and open Thursday thru Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
