Way of the Sword Fencing Academy in Ridgefield Celebrates Grand Opening on Saturday, September 12

Way of the Sword Fencing Academy will have a grand opening party on Saturday, September 12 from 1:30 to 4pm in their new 4350 square foot Olympic fencing facility at 722 Danbury Road in Ridgefield, CT.

During the open house, you can meet the coaches and current students who can answer all of your questions about the academy, watch a digital presentation called “everything you wanted to know about fencing”, and participate in group activities. Parents will be able to speak to others about the wonderful effect fencing has had on their child and of course, refreshments will be served. Saber, foil and epee styles will be demonstrated and everyone will have an opportunity to fence.

Registration is available for classes 6 days a week with programs starting at $149 per month.

As the parent of a third year student, Michelle said, “I love that it's a sport where both genders participate together. Jon never spoke to girls before fencing. I think the age range of the kids is great for all involved. It becomes a mentoring experience, too. Not many sports have such comradery.”

Anya, a third year fencer stated, "I like fencing because it is different. It's not like soccer or field hockey where a lot of kids play. This is unique. Plus I like it because people fenced over 100 years ago and its cool to have a sport with that kind of history."

"Mike Martin is energetic both in his drive to teach his students and his enthusiasm for the sport. He is committed to teaching the art of fencing; technique of the sport and the values of sportsmanship.”, said Anya’s mom. She added, ”I truly enjoy the company of parents from this fencing club. I had no idea how much fun I was going to have."

Way of the Sword is available for birthday parties, corporate team building events, after school enrichment programs and more.

Way of the Sword is a USFA sanctioned club dedicated to promoting both recreational and Olympic fencing. Our offerings include personal fencing instruction while teaching skills for honorable living in today’s fast-paced and often challenging culture. It’s unique curriculum is designed to bring pupils to a deep understanding of fencing both as a sport and art form as well as of themselves as responsible, reflective, and well-meaning citizens. The academy uses traditional training methods, creative facilitation practices, and character education to develop strong strong athletes and individuals.
