Walk Proposed NRVT in Ridgefield on Sunday

Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) is unveiling a brand new trail in Ridgefield with a community walk on Sunday, April 30 beginning at 1:00 pm

A planning team of Ridgefield citizens has identified the proposed first section of the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT);  a beautiful two-mile section running from the intersection of Rt 7 and Simpaug Turnpike to Bobby's Court on the Redding line. “This will connect with the proposed Redding Mile section of the NRVT,” says Charlie Taney, Executive Director, Norwalk River Valley Trail.

NRVT is unveiling this trail with a 4 mile hike on Sunday, April 30 beginning at 1:00 pm. Participants should meet at the parking lot at Simpaug Turnpike on Route 7. “You'll see the parking area on the north side of Simpaug Turnpike, right at the intersection with Rt 7,” says Taney.  Please note: you are not obligated to hike the entire two miles each way. Taney adds, “Feel free to hike the first twenty or thirty minutes along the river, then head back.”

“I hiked this section on Tuesday, took about 50 minutes each way, going at a modest pace, along with some bird watching and modest trail clearing. It's a beautiful hike, a good piece of it along the Norwalk River,” says Taney.

Taney recommends that participants bring water and tick repellent. “A hiking stick might a good idea as well, as there are a few spots where the footing is a bit tricky,” he says.

Regarding weather Taney says, “We'll plan to go unless it's really nasty.”
